After graduating as a contemporary dancer from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, David Zagari worked with various international companies. In 2008, he began collaborating in the field of performance art, notably with Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet. With director and performer Alessandra Coppola, he began creating several projects under the title Gender Matters & Physical Exhaustion, which they presented at Galeria Vermelho in Sao Paulo, Nuit des Musées in Brussels, the Contemporanea festival in Florence and elsewhere. His interests in performance led him to complete a post-master’s degree in performative arts at a.pass in Antwerp in 2011, and then a master’s degree in Urban Space, which he obtained in June 2014 at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels. During this period he created several performances and participatory installations. In 2015 he founded the Hypercorps artists’ residency, which he runs until 2019. Collaboration is central to his curatorial practice and personal projects. In March 2024, he presented his solo Le Piquet at the Théâtre Sévelin 36 in Lausanne, the first in a series of invitations to visual artists. The piece was selected for Aerowaves 2025. David is currently associate artist at Théâtre Sévelin 36.
