Mélanie Cerezo Gobet is a Filipino-Swiss artist active in the fields of contemporary dance and performance art. She lives and works in Fribourg. She studied contemporary dance at the London Contemporary Dance School, French language and literature at the University of Fribourg, dance research at the University of Paris 8, and performance art at the Bern University of the Arts. Since 2017, her work as a choreographer and solo artist has led her to explore stripped-down and contemplative performative forms. Her work focuses more on processes than on form, treating the body as a site for the projection of the imagination. Her favorite subjects include seriality, protocol, and trace. Over five years, she created around ten performances with and around the object of the balloon. In 2019, she received two artistic residencies in Berlin and Buenos Aires, awarded respectively by the Canton and the City of Fribourg. Since 2022, she has embarked on new artistic research around the notions of identity and cultural heritage. Her work has been co-produced notably by Nuithonie (Fribourg), L’Oriental (Vevey), the Belluard Bollwerk Festival (Fribourg), and RESO, as part of the national tour of the Fête de la Danse.
